- When I was 13, a boy gave me a bracelet around Valentine’s Day. I think I just looked at him puzzled and said, “Thanks?” It didn’t even occur to me that maybe he had a crush on me until a classmate pointed it out. I never asked for one, and nobody ever gave me jewelry, and my parents were never particularly affectionate, so I was just kind of confused. I feel bad about it now, it probably took a lot of courage on his part and I probably reacted worse than flippant. I ran into him a decade later, he’s happy, he’s a cop.
- In my 20s, people tried to kiss me at parties. I swear I give out no signals, but excuse me I do get excited sometimes talking about art or music. I remember a funny time I passed on someone’s advances only to learn they fell down the stairs soon after, and then decided it was promptly time to go home 😂
- If you asked me to grab a cup of coffee anytime before the mid 2010s, I would have likely said, “No, I don’t drink coffee.” Didn’t realize this is just something people do to hangout as friends, or as dates. Like chilling and getting a bite to eat, or going for an ice cream, “a beer,” or going for a joint together, or a smoke. Took me awhile to realize, “We should get a coffee sometime,” meant let’s hang out and be friends or get to know each other, and it’s not really particular to the beverage itself. As a parent in my 40s, I drink it now, for energy.. but how many friendships, networking opportunities, and connections I axed over that misunderstanding, I’ll never know. “Coffee means sex?” George Costanza. I am weird.
An adorable reclusive rain frog, kinda weird, just doing its own thing. Comes with a Rene Magritte painting too. Don’t take it personally, she’s just in her own little world, if you require a response, provide more explanation !
